In the Netherlands, magic mushroom grow kits are legal to buy and possess. The kits contain fully colonized mycelium of the Psilocybe cubensis mushroom. Because no mushrooms (fruiting bodies) are present yet, they are not classified as prohibited substances under the Opium Act.
As long as no mushrooms have been grown, the kit is not considered a prohibited substance. Therefore, shipping to both EU and non-EU countries is generally permitted through customs. Note: this does not mean that growing or using it is legal everywhere.
Growing and using magic mushrooms for personal use is permitted in the Netherlands. However, legislation may differ in other countries within and outside the EU:
- Grow kits often fall under the Mutual Recognition of Goods Act, which means they can be sold throughout the EU if they are legal in one member state.
Use and cultivation are subject to local laws in the country where you live or use the product. In some countries, cultivation or consumption is prohibited, even if the grow kit is sold legally.
How do you use the grow kit?
- Place the growing container in the supplied growing bag.
- Close the bag with the supplied closure clips.
- Place the kit on a light but not sunny place at a temperature of ± 20–25 °C.

Are truffles legal in my country?

They fall under the category of foodstuffs and are monitored by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA)—the same agency that also inspects regular food products. Thanks to this legal status, they are safe and fully permitted for production and sale in the Netherlands.
EU Mutual Recognition Legislation
Within the European Union, the principle of mutual recognition applies: a product legally marketed in one Member State may also be offered for sale or imported into other Member States. Exceptions are only permitted if there are demonstrable risks to public health. Because psilocybin truffles are considered safe and non-addictive, they fall within this framework. European law prevails over national legislation in this regard, meaning local authorities and customs have no grounds to block an order.
